Owning a dog is a commitment that involves a great deal of time and effort, but also one that gives you plenty of excitement and enjoyment in return. A dog is more than just a pet; it’s a member of the family – and a loyal friend – and deserves to be treated as such. That’s why we reckon you should look at dog-friendly holiday destinations, so you can enjoy your best friend’s company even when you take a much-needed break! The fun of having your dog with you is something that you cannot miss, and we recently took our cockapoo – Luna – to a beautiful cottage in a fantastic spot that was just perfect for her.
Now, being a lively and fun-loving cockapoo, we needed somewhere that had suitable space for Luna to enjoy, and also access to other places for the dog, plus myself and my partner, to visit. A search found us a cottage in Lincolnshire, in a superb spot with a fully-enclosed garden, where dog owners were actively encouraged. The garden was perfect, with plenty of room and excellent fencing to keep Luna in, and she was fascinated by the cows in the next field! This had all the makings of the perfect holiday, and so it proved!
Enjoying the Beach
If there’s one thing we can certainly recommend it’s that you check out the Lincolnshire coastline; it’s wonderful, and our cottage was just a ten-minute drive from a simply superb beach with dedicated dog-friendly areas. You’ll find this is the norm for most beaches these days, so check that you are letting your dog run free in the part of the beach where they are not restricted. Luna simply loved the beach, and she also loved the water – which came as a surprise to us! She had previously been wary of water, but once she got used to it, was hopping over the waves and having great fun.
One thing we were concerned about was leaving the dog alone in a strange house, but we did so on two occasions – to enjoy an excellent meal and evening out locally – with no problems. We reckoned the endless play she had enjoyed all day had tires her out, and she was fast asleep when we managed to look in the window on the way back! Of course, when we were in she whined a little, so we let her sleep on the bed – something we never do at home!
All in all, I can safely say this really was the perfect holiday, and made all the more so by having Luna with us. She’s such a large part of our life, after all, so taking her on holiday made sense. The cottage was perfect, the location beautiful, and the surrounding area full of interesting and fun things to see and do, so make sure you check out dog-friendly cottages, and we can strongly recommend you consider Lincolnshire for the best of all worlds.
